Bubbles and Polish

Caitlyn has discovered a new passion: bubble bath. William has loved bubbles for a long time but we haven't gotten any for the kids for awhile. The first time I tried bubbles, William had begged and since we didn't have any bubble bath I used some body wash, Caitlyn freaked out. She almost wouldn't let me put her in the tub, just clung to my neck. But she decided that it was okay, so she was really excited when we bought some last week. Now is you mention bath time she starts yelling "Bubbles? Bath time bubbles," and runs for the bathroom.
William is showing off his bubble beard and his new mitten. He thinks it is great to scoop the bubbles onto the wall and them "pop" them, at least that is what he says he is doing.
Caitlyn tried to make a beard like William and has decided that they don't taste so good. She is funny because she will put some in her mouth, say yucky, and then try to get the bubbles out, usually with a hand that is covered with bubbles. It's a vicious cycle.
Here are the little toes all primped and polished. William gets excited anytime I get the polish out to paint my toenails, I don't bother doing my fingernails, and he always wants his done too. I completely understand that he will grow out of this and Brandon doesn't seem to be concerned. So William's toes match my own, a nice green color. Caitlyn was intrigued by what we were doing and constantly checked out our toes but she didn't really want me to paint her toes. But the next day she kept pointing to her toes. I asked her if she wanted her toes to be green and she said no. But the moment I asked her if she wanted her toes to be pink her eyes lit up. She held still for her toes and fingers. She was just so excited that they were pink. She still will point to her toes and tell me they are pink. She thinks the more pink the better.

Piooneer Day Fun & Funny William

Happy Pioneer Day! Yes, I understand that it was a couple of days ago. It was actually our Sunday for the week because Brandon had to work last Saturday and Sunday but had the two Thursdays off. It doesn't quite make up for my having to take both kids to church alone but almost. Today we drove up to the St. Anthony parade. I must say I think it is the best parade in the area. This is because there are more floats, fewer cheerleaders and dance teams, chocolate milk, and the kids get tons of candy. Mom and Dad managed to make it after an absence of two years and they brought Kayla, Michelle, Ashley, and Candace. You will have to trust me on that since I forgot our camera. Big shout out to Megan and Collin for letting us sit in front of their house and share their shade. They definitely have a great spot since the parade goes right past their house.
To justify the gas to drive up to the parade we did spend most of the day at Mom and Dad's. William was so excited to be spending time with his cousins and Caitlyn wanted to say hi to the cats. We had a hot dog roast, so we all smell soooooooooooo good, and we brought stuff for s'mores. The funniest moment of the day came after Brandon had made one for William. William kept asking to just eat the chocolate but he had said that he liked s'mores when we were camping so I said he could have some after his s'more. He tried to take a bite but couldn't get any chocolate so we had to readjust it for him. He took one bite and then tried to hand it to Grandma. When we asked him if he wanted the rest he said, "no, it tastes like fire." I'm not exactly sure what that means but he looked so serious. We all laughed. The kids played long and hard but they had fun. They spent some time in the pool and on the slip n' slide, William told Brandon "maybe I should just run down it," and Caitlyn has definitely gotten over her weird phobia of pools. So we had fun and spent the day with family which is really the point right? Since there was only moderate crying, no bleeding, and no broken bones I guess it was a success.

More Caitlyn

Caitlyn is just full of surprises lately. She goes full days without socks on but has to have them on at night. And then the other day she actually requested her swimming suit so she could get in the pool. Of course she loved it once she was in, we've been trying to tell her that she would but she obviously didn't believe us. She thought it was great to imitate William in the pool, she has been laughing at everything that he was doing and it was even funnier to do it herself.

I decided to try something today with Caitlyn's hair. I have suspected for a long time that her hair was long enough to braid but I didn't think that she would hold still long enough for me to do it. But here it is, Caitlyn's hair is definitely long enough to braid. I know it doesn't look real nice, but she wasn't holding real still and since she was in my lap I didn't have a lot of leverage to work with. She was pretty good until I got to the hair at her neck. She wasn't happy about that.

Now I don't want you to think that Caitlyn is the only entertaining child in this family. William just seems to have fewer idiosyncrasies. He really likes to pretend and imitate. We have rules about pretending when we leave the house. The main one is that he has to be William when we aren't at home. It was too confusing for people at church and other places when he would inform them that he was someone else and there were melt downs and temper tantrums involved when people didn't realize he was being someone else. But he is a lot of fun and it is amazing how fast he learns. It is nice that I can have him read me the story at bedtime.

Caitlyn

Since Caitlyn entertains us so much I thought I would share it with the rest of you. I know that she looks cute, but she can definitely be stubborn(I think that she gets it from Brandon and he hasn't' be able to talk me out of that) and there are some things that just make us laugh. She has a thing for socks. She prefers to have them on, almost all of the time. She isn't completely dressed without socks, and don't even think about putting her to bed without them on. She has gotten up at night because her socks have come off or are partially off. So it just seems odd if she doesn't have them. She spent all of Monday without them so you could tell her feet are a different color as her legs with a definite sock line. I thought the world might have stopped turning but as soon as I put her pajamas on she was asking for her socks. She doesn't understand the concept of sharing, but she knows enough to scream "my turn" when she wants to play with something that William has.
The other day she convinced Brandon to start throwing her into the air. She loved it. She kept her arms and legs straight and just giggled. Poor Brandon, she wanted him to do it over and over again which was hard on him since she weighs almost 30 pounds.
I think she liked the fact that I kept trying to get the perfect picture, the whole delay thing really bugs me about digital cameras, because Brandon just kept throwing her. Anytime he put her down she just put her arms up and would ask for more.
Caitlyn watched William get a drink out of the hose and thought she would try it. It took her a couple of tries, she got her face a couple of times, but she finally managed it. What you can't really see in the picture is that she would flinch and blink her eyes over and over again the closer the water got to her mouth.
The last funny thing about Caitlyn centers around the pool. She wouldn't get out of the pool last summer and this summer she won't get in. I don't know if it is because of the water temperature or if we have scarred her from the aquatic center pool but she won't get in. She will play in the water from outside, she loves to fill up the pool and play with the hose, but she won't get in. If you try to put her in she screams.

Doctor's visit

Today we had our doctor's appointment. Becky was good enough to watch the kids for us so Brandon could come with me because we had the ultrasound done. It keeps seeming really soon to me and I finally figured out why. I took so long to decide on a doctor that me appointments started off by at least a week so the ultrasound came about two weeks earlier than it would have if I had gone in when I was supposed to. Anyway, the baby looks good. They were able to find all the parts that are supposed to be there. The tech doing the ultrasound was a little frustrated with the baby at one point because she was trying to get a good view of the heart and the baby kept moving. But this was the first time that we were given a definite on the gender of the baby. Both William and Caitlyn were very modest, or cramped since their ultrasounds were done later on in the pregnancies. We sticking with our pattern, the opposite of what Clarice has but 8 months later this time instead of 6. I am seriously considering opting out of the ultrasound for that reason. For those of you who don't understand that, we are having a girl. This is the third time we have managed to have a baby the same year as my sister and opposite. William says he is sad, he thought we should have a boy, but since he likes babies and we keep telling him what a super big brother he is going to be I think he will be okay once she gets here.

Summer Activities

So I thought that I might as well give you all a little update about our summer after the excitement of our family vacation. We still frequent the library every week and William is plowing through the family reading program that we signed up for. The part he likes the best is getting a prize when he has finished a week and brings in his chart. One of the prizes was a small cinnamon roll from Geraldine's.

I don't know whose definition of small they were using but it certainly wasn't mine. Honestly, if that is a small I could never eat a large. William thought it was great. He attempted to pick it up to eat but gave up after a few bites. He preferred the eat directly from the plate method. Of course that meant that he was absolutely covered with the icing.
Here are some pictures from the 4th of July. We hung around Idaho Falls, that meant that we had to figure out when and where the parade was, had a picnic, and then ate at the station with Brandon because we can't miss our weekly visit with Karole, Jay, Jamie and Scott. Caitlyn isn't very vocal when we are there but she loves to see them on TV.
Caitlyn has days where she won't let anyone touch her hair and this was one of them so that is why she looks like a little ragamuffin. She thought it was great that we ate at the park, not that she did much eating, and wanted to spend the rest of the day on the swings and slide. William enjoyed it too, but he did eat.


William's favorite part of the parade was the firefighters at the end because they were giving out hats. So here is his fireman pose in his new hat, the last plastic fireman hat we had got stepped on and thus thrown away.
